Troubleshooting outloud Script
by Todd DeVries
Good morning,
I am trying to run the outloud script and receive the following error:
./outloud
Using SoX
19No language foundtts
while executing
"load $tclTTS/atcleci.so"
(file "./outloud" line 459)
Here is what I know thus far.
1. Running Make in the linux-outloud directory appears to compile without
any errors.
2. Emacspeak using Espeak works.
3. The oralux synth works using the spd-say command. Can control speed,
pitch, and rate.
4. I am only using alsa. Auditory themes work, but Aplay hangs occasionally.
5. Running an up-to-date Arch system.
Would appreciate help troubleshooting this and getting the synth to
work.
Many thanks in advance for helping out a non-programmer.

Getting Started
by Richard Wells
Hello: My name is Richard wells. I have been hearing about this
environment for many years but have never investigated it for myself.
For someone like me who has no idea at all where to go to get started,
how would you suggest I begin learning? My experience with computers has
been diverse with some Linux, but mostly Microsoft Windows and Apple
Macintosh. Please be gentle with a user with absolutely no idea of what
emacspeak is and how to get productive using it.

Problems with latest emacspeak on mac
by Greg Wocher
Hello all,
I am having some strange issues since I updated emacs and emacspeak to the latest versions on my mac. Whenever I try to exit out using c-x c-c I get a strange error about there being an undefined character in the mini buffer. Also when I use c-g to quit a partial command it just says back to top level. I also get back to top level when I try to activate the menu using esc then tilda. Does anyone know what I might be able to do to try and fix this issue?
Thanks,
Greg Wocher

Caps beep or speak
by bart@bunting.net.au
Hi,
I recall that the beeping for capital indication was removed a while ago.
I thought it was done because of the lack of support for it in the speech
servers.
Now that we have software Dectalk is it possible to bring the behaviour back
if desired for those synths that support it?
Am I missing a toggle or something somewhere that changes this behaviour?
Personally I dislike the spoken cap indication and much prefer the beeps.
Kind regards
Bart

Bug in auditory icon theme definition
by Tim Cross
Found this issue while chasing down some other issues relating to
playing of auditory icons. Seems there may be a bug in
emacspeak-sounds-select-theme. After selecting a theme, even the
existing default theme, the error "Icon <name> not defined" errors are
generated.
This is a low priority bug as it won't affect anyone unless they try to
change the icon theme.
To reproduce -
- Start Emacs and load Emacspeak.
- Run emacspeak-sounds-select-theme, either via M-x or C-e ).
- Select a theme. pan-chimes (the defualt).
- Do a find file or some other operation which would normally cause the
playing of open-object icon. Error generated "Icon opoen-object not
defined".
Note that the error is not generated when you start emacs and before
running emacspeak-sounds-select-theme. Errors occur regardless of which
theme you select, including selecting the same theme loaded by default
when emacs starts. This likely indicates that the theme itself is
complete, but a mapping is missing when emacspeak-sounds-select-theme
resets the theme.
I confirmed this issue with both the current master head and with the
code as it was when v57 was released 13 days ago.

a short note about bounced email
by Greg Priest-Dorman
Hi Folks,
Some list mail has not been delivered to all list members.
If you see list mail in the archive that did not arrive in your email here
is what I can tell you about it.
A few announcement messages to list were misformed, the result is that they
were rejected by some mail clients and not delivered. This is typically
due to html attachments. In this case you get list messages (like this
one) but might not have received the last announcement about emacspeak 57
being released.
Separate from the above issue, I am seeing mail to a list member or two
bounce because their mailer blocks our mail. We are on a black list, not
because we send out spam, but because someone sends spam from an ip address
in the same range as our ip address. Short of changing our IP address,
there is nothing I can do about that.
If you notice messages in the archive that you do not receive, and you want
to figure out why, feel free to write to me directly.

C-e end of line conflicts with Emacspeak key prefix
by Tom Moore
Hi,
I am in the beginning stages of learning Emacspeak.
One thing in the tutorial that seems to conflict with the Emacspeak settings
is the C-e function that is the Emacspeak control prefix. How do I deal with
this by remapping it or remapping the main function that was originally set up
for this key press to something else?
Thanks,
Tom
